I have to confess that while I grouch at the first sign of "varmints" in the
gardens, I am the first to protect the same. It's been kind of hard
sometimes, like last year when the kousa dogwood finally decided to look the
best it ever had. Then worms invaded in the very same area that mama
mockingbird made her nest. To remove or spray them would have created a
problem with the nest and I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Couldn't do
anything to the rabbit nest at the base of the daylilies either. Guess I'm
just a softy at heart.
