Jean,
if your roots look firm, healthy they can/do form new Culms along the root
stems.Just think of lawn grass,and how it grows sideways.
If the damage was not too great it should recover,given time and healthy roots
to support new top growth.

Bamboo after all is just a giant grass.

You might cut the pot away(assuming it to be plastic)a then plant the whole
thing into a prepared site.
