You're right about cultural conditions affecting a plant's growth habit.
Mine are in a south facing border that drys out quickly. The bloom time is
troublesome! All my references indicate the Hyperion is finishing its
blooming just as mine is starting.
In the long run, it doesn't matter if I never find out what it is. I like
it and that's what counts.
