Val,
Most of the evolution in my gardening is due to this list-- I've learned
so much and the garden is looking 100% better. The plants are happier
because of better soil and proper attention to their individual needs,
and I've got incentive to go out and do the maintenance that's so
important. Since the main part is taken care of, now I'm learning to
notice color combinations that appeal to me more than others, and to seek
out plants that bloom at the same time in similar colors, and to
investigate leaf texture contrasts too. This is still very much in the
learning stage but I can see the improvement.
I can't afford to be an impulse buyer or make real expensive mistakes, so
do research anything I buy for its suitability to the site, and plan as
far as possible to have good color combinations, mostly pastels in spring
and stronger hotter colors for summer, since I like both, but not
together! Growing perennials from seed helps keep costs down and gives me
new plants all the time.
Probably the most delightful moments are to see a new plant bloom for the
first time; also to see a magnificent mature plant strutting a great
show.
