Joanie,
My best guess is that it's weather related. It's too hot, too early.
Don't think it has to do with any sort of reversion to another type.
Weather changes flower color on a lot of plants...
July in May has blasted so much of my spring flower show. My
deciduous Azalea is just opening (usually doesn't happen for another
week or so) and the flowers are fading immediately so that the usual
huge balls of flowers aren't developing :-( Flowers on rhodies and
Azaleas, who usually make all of May beautiful, are sad, faded rags;
spent petals cover the ground when they should be glorifying the
plants. If Ma Nature is being so nasty this early, Lord only knows
what she's got in store for us come real July....I may just leave
town.
