I've not had any luck growing Cornus canadensis here in coastal
Connecticut.
My garden has very poor drainage (lots of clay) and summers are
muggy. Fuzzy plants like Lychnis coronaria or Stachys are the first to
succumb to the mugs; plants needing especially good drainage are
susceptible to damage from winter wet. I suppose that's why everybody in
this neighborhood seems to grow the same plants--they're the ones that
survive!
