I just can't resist jumping in here....
I've scrounged so many nice heavy industrial light fixtures being thrown
out by businesses. There's been
lots of high efficiency lamps developed recently and often the old stuff
gets tossed. I've a few 4 lamp fixtures that are
ideal for plant starting. There's some professional scroungers that
operate salvage and resell stores here ("The
Re-use-it Center") that divert usable stuff from landfills to re-use.
These places are full of fluorescent fixtures
for $1.00 each that would be fine for plant lights.
So if you need 5 or 10 lights for plants, hunt around, you should be
able to get 'em for next to nothing. And save them
from the landfill. Probably in the phone book under Salvage or
something...
I just hate all the usable stuff I see going into landfills.
