Hi Claire,
Yes, we have championship sized slugs here, but the newer products like
Sluggo, Escargo and Deadline granules all work well without needing to be
renewed every time it rains. I have had fewer slugs the last 2 springs than
I can ever remember.
Yes, I have seen Kudzu while traveling in Maryland 2 or 3 years ago. The
Oregon dept of Ag found a quarter acre stand of it on some property the next
county over and they THINK they have eradicated it. The nursery inspector
told me the dept of Ag get dozens of applications to bring it into the state
every year. Have these people been living in a cave?
I would say Lythrum a.k.a. purple loosestrife is a BIG problem in the
waterways of southern PA, NJ, DE & MD also. People here think it is so
pretty (and it is) and want to plant it in their gardens in spite of it's
designation as a noxious weed. I saw it in gardens all over Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan a few years back also.
As for us, English Ivy is in the process of being designated a noxious weed,
but I still see it on the availability lists of wholesale nurseries. This
stuff is so vigorous here that it is choking the trees in our parks and will
swallow the city if we aren't careful.
I'm sure others could add more horror stories.

Hello Marilyn,
If you have not seen the Kudzu, it is an amazing plant. Than goodness it
cannot survive in the North. We do not have it in NYS, I don't know it's
northern range.
Eventually all of us will have everything, I suppose, if it will survive the
weather.
Best of all is the slug thing. You have the winners there. I have not seen
one slug this year and that is because we have not had any rain since the
snowmelt in April. I seldom have many slugs in the garden unless, as last
year, it rained every day.
