Re: Funeral flowers


In the old country cemetery where my parents and other relatives are
buried, hundreds of peonies are actually planted in the ground, by
individual graves.  Some of them must be 70 or 80 years old, and the
grass is covered with those tiny pale pink star shaped flowers.  Under
the huge old oaks and pines, it's really beautiful this time of year.
Earlier in the spring, there are lots of clumps of the smaller narcissus
as well.  It's a pity the more modern cemeteries don't permit this -
much nicer than the fresh flowers that ultimately wither away.
