It is true that nearly all garden books credit the photographer for the pix
used and it does not seem to me that the site or owner of the garden is
mentioned. So it is obvious that the photographer is asked permission but
where the pic was taken does not seem to be an issue.
It would be an issue in many cases as the zone and section of the country, if
North American, would be very pertinent information to any gardener viewing
the photograph. No site info can be very misleading.
There are several well known photgraphers who make a living selling pix and
renting slides. Derek Fell is one who comes up constantly.
In the popular Rix/Philllips series, the location of the garden is nearly
always mentioned as is the fact that a native site many also be the location.
That is useful as you try to sort through their perennial series. Therein
is one of the problems with so many garden books, the pix are from anywhere
and you know where your garden lies.
If I were Gene, I should be very indignant as well. Do not compare yourself
to that rock Gene, we all would like our fellow man to treat us well. As old
as you get, you still feel a jolt when you encounter a person who takes
advantage of your good nature. It is probably the reason why "no pictures"
is encountered so often at performances and similar affairs.
