This entire thread, the idea that slugs could be your friend in the garden or
that you could find them useful is ludicrous to me. Slugs are gross and
yukky and around here if they keep out of my way they live for another day.
Oh Marilyn, only on the West Coast of the US could one find a cadre of slug
lovers. We are expecting an onslaught of all garden pests this summer
because of the lack of low temperatures the past winter. Who knows - maybe we
will be become slug obsessed, too.
I am encouraging snakes and it is hard for me because I don't like snakes.
They move quickly and turn up when you least expect them. A coop/ext.
bulletin says they assist in returning the balance of nature in the garden.
Hence, no killing of snakes here, even the big ones that hide under the rain
barrels and scare the wits out of me. At the end of this summer, I want an
acounting of the number of mice they have killed.
