<< Unfortunately, all my neighbors are snake killers and I don't know how to
convince the snakes that they should just stay on my side of the fence.

>>Depending on where you are located thus knowing that the snakes are
probably
harmless, you might try a coop/ext flyer to the neighbors on snakes.
Where I am located is in the heart of the Bible Belt where snakes = Satan.
Not going to catch ME circulating any "save the snake" fliers--they already
think I'm strange enough, not married and not worried about it! I've picked
up a few black snakes caught in the wrong place in my time and in one case,
watched the crowd melt away, as much in fear of me for handling the snake as
for the snake itself.
(Have to admit, the first time I picked up a black snake, I thought
"non-poisoness" meant it wouldn't hurt you if it bit. Since learned that
the bites get badly infected anyway and have become much more careful.)
Found a baby brown snake that could have been a copperhead in the house once
and trapped it in Tupperware and dumped it outside.
