Well, that's exactly what I was going to suggest.  It's about the
only way to discourage weeds under a deck, tho' some seeds will blow
in and germinate in the gravel; they won't be able to get a nice toe
hold for several years, until enough detritus has sifted into the
gravel to provide some humus.
