RE: sawdust


Bill,  that's a good point.  It always puzzled me that sawdust was/is the
recommended mulch for Blueberries.  I have always used it on my 15+ year old
blueberries bushes and they are not chlorotic - they are quite healthy and
produce a bumper crop year after year.  Maybe it has to do with the
extremely acid soil pH (4.5) that blueberries prefer?

I have read that sawdust will suck nitrogen out of the soil as it
decomposes,
so you wouldn't want to mulch plants with it--they'd starve.  After it
decomposes, though, it is supposed to return that nitrogen to the soil.
