Don't know your plant but I have the ordinary double flowered one.  This does 
send out creeping stems close to the ground but there are not many.  While 
weeding, you can chop them off with a trowel.  I have these in rocks so they 
are not treated well and have never noticed them to be very vigorous.  They 
do seem to have a poor reputation but again, it may be south of us where they 
have more months to creep about.
