By the way, this plant (A. foeniculum) is a perfect example of why you 
should not take zones too seriously when it comes to herbaceous plants.
A number of sources list it as being hardy only to zone 5-but the plant 
grows wild in Manitoba and Saskatchewan-certainly zone 4 and judging as best 
I can from the maps, into 3 as well.

As long as a plant isn't an obvious tropical, it's worth trying one or two 
zones north of what the zone recommendation is given as. Often that 
recommendation is just a guess based on where it comes from.
