For any interested there is a half-page obituary of Ms. Danz in a local paper
called the"The Independent" published in Hudson, NY. I checked their news
site today and apparently this article was not one they chose to post.
Ms. Danz died of breast cancer at the age of 55 while leaving unfinished a
book to be entitled "Men, Morals and Mulch".
She has a long theatrical history beginning in Chicago's "Second City". I
think she knew that her skills have been written about in many, many books so
she added the warmth and comedy that made them sellers. She designed and
advised also on the historic site called Olana in NYS which is a restored
artist's home. Most of the serious side of Ms. Danz was not seen on TV.
An anecdote for the fans - she had a long anecdotal story/joke on orchids.
As many of her listeners did not know the root of the botanic name for orchid
she combined it with a high school prom scene and that got her banned from
the daylily clubs. So you all may have liked Ms. Danz, a garden writer who
got herself banned from a few of the clubs with risque humor. She could
however grow orchids. She may been the only garden speaker I can recall
banned for unapproved garden humor.
I am sorry to have her away from the local scene.
