Re: Salix integra 'Hakuro Nishiki'

Hi Donna,

I am on digest so don't know if you've already received replies.

I am growing it here in NY USDA zone 4 (-20 to -30F). We put ours in last
year and it did fine through a winter in which I lost several plants. I
have a photo of S.i. 'Hakuro Nishiki' as a standard -- quite pretty -- and
here is a yahoo URL for several references:

My culture notes include: full sun, -20F, semi-moist soil, medium growth
rate, ht 4', wi 6'. Ours is growing next to a pond; we bought it for the
striking foliage. If you can grow yours as a standard, it's quite
attractive that way; it would be impossible for us to do that with ours
without starting over at ground level -- something we're used to here in
the north country. :-) (I can send you a jpg of H.N. growing as a standard.)
