Hello Donna,
My pots are sunk in a tall raised bed and covered with what ever I have handy for mulch, grass clipping, chopped leaves. I do ensure that the pots are firmly in the hole - no air gaps! No loses the last three winters.
But truly, a YMMV situation.

Cheryl or anyone... I have done this in the past too... but only have a 75% survival rate... anything special you do first? Maybe I wait to long? These are usually my end of season sales. I hold them over either due to thinking they would not have enough time to get situated in the ground, or don't know where to permanently plant. Donna-----Original Message----- Donna, I have had many things survive and thrive in sunken pots - I try to size for growing room and no more. I have many 'baby' trees that have spent several winters in pots and more daylilies with nary a problem.
