Re: drainage & survival was: Artemesia Oriental Limelight and more winter kill


Merri, the more I hear and read, the more it seems to me that a
sandy, fast draining soil can make a whale of a difference in whether
some plants survive winter.  Not having that kind of soil, I cannot
testify from experience, but it appears that ''iffy" plants often
survive if they have perfect drainage and no wet stays around their
crowns.

Those gardening on sandy soil in colder climates need to chime in
here about what 'tender' type plants they have managed to grow in the
ground.
