Re: "bloomin" bamboo (OT)

We have  a bamboo privacy hedge that we planted about 15 years ago.  It is
about 15-20 feet tall and is full of long seed spikes this year.  It has never
bloomed before and I wonder about the "old wives" tale that once it blooms, it
dies.

Anyone had blooming bamboo before?

Jean, do you knwo which bamboo you have? Let me know and I'll look it up. Alternatively, Ted Meredith's bamboo book should be able to help you. I don't see it on my shelf at the moment so I can't give yo uthe exact title but it is written for gardeners in temperate climates and published by Meredith. I am sure your local bookstore will carry it. It is an excellent book!
