Slugs

Hundreds of plants, thousands of slugs. I have a serious problem with them as
they are everywhere, in all my flower beds, lawn, and vegetable garden. So far
I've tried the little dishes of beer and this works very slowly against an ever
increasing population of slugs. I've added "toad houses" to try to encourage
their presence, but so far have seen none.
The most effective method so far has been my early morning routine, coffee cup
in one hand, killing stick in the other and playing "Slug Eliminator," smashing
them in half as I see them. I would prefer to remain organic, if possible.
But the durn things are really doing a number on so many of my plants, I've got
to do something. What has worked for you?
