Kitty,
I used regular potting soil that I had on hand. Then sunk the pot in the
holding bed for ease of watering.

Monica,

The seedling is midway between an upright Jap Maple and Orangeola (mentioned
those in another post). It doesn't look like either one but possible some
sort of cross????
Thanks for confirming potting. Do you use any special medium?

Kitty

Hi Kitty,
Do you have a tree that looks like that nearby?
I had a lovely (and large) Japanese Maple that grew volunteers very easily
and they did come true. I choose some to grow on in a pot to about 3 feet
then replanted them in the yard. Alas, the original tree succumbed in an
ice storm.
Sorry about the long story.
My opinion: It could be!

Hi All!
This may seem like a stupid question but could this be a seedling of
Japanese Maple?
I always assumed if there were any seedlings they would germinate anywhere
near true.
I expected they'd look like any old maple.
But I've never had a seedling like this before. What do you make of it? Any
value?
