Voles are like short-tailed small rats. They're larger and slower than
mice, but can wreak unbelievable damage in gardens, yards, farmers fields,
orchards, etc. They burrow when they prefer it, and go underground,
consuming root crops (they leave the outer skin fairly intact so no damage
shows above ground), but may come up, for instance, exactly under a pendant
eggplant, that they will proceed to hollow out. They pull grasses over the
top of their runs, so it's like a grass tunnel. These are sometimes not
noticed until snow melts. They can be organically controlled by a very
patient cat (waiting for them to surface) or by a terrier (cairn, rat or
something similar that is in touch with its genes). They are not your
