RE: Anti-Slug "carpet"?

I think I may have missed part of this thread. What exactly do you spray, Heather, the visible slugs, or the area around the plants?  I assume the slugs, but I very seldom see them, only their damage.

I don't know how many slugs you have but we keep it up here and try to spray 
early morning and evening.
