I grow hollyhocks from my grandmothers garden, though here in CA they are
martyrs to rust, unlike in the mid-west. I also collect sweet peas,
violets and old roses, for the nostalgia of their scents. I've been glad
to see the rise of seed houses that are preserving old varieties.
I'm also quite forward about going up to front doors and asking for
cuttings of nice old plants. People are often glad to share and to share
the story of the plant.
