Yours is a familiar story to to us perennial gardeners who were
beginners once ourselves. You are more energetic than I moving the
plants around; I was so afraid of setting them back drastically if I
dug them up! I usually sit with a notebook and a "map" of what I've
planted where, and every few days during the growing year, make comments
and suggestions to myself as to what would be better farther to the back
and what needs to be divided, etc.--all for the next spring. Some
perennials don't hit their full stride until year 2 or 3 and it is hard
to tell how they will do in one's particular garden based on catalog
descriptions! (I've always suspected catalog pictures were posed by
professional plants, like models in Vogue)
But the learning and various sucesses and failures are really part of
the fun, so enjoy.
