Wyn and several others have been discussing the joys and woes of dutch
iris. I received about 10 bulbs about 4 years ago as a bonus for
ordering from Brecks. I duly planted them, and each year they have
come up but never bloomed..just the leaves. UNTIL this year. What
did I do differently? I fertilized!! I wasn't fertilizing the
iris..I was fertilizing the daffodils and tulips which are in the same
bed. I just scattered it around liberally, and of course
unintentionally gave some to the iris. The moral of the story is,
give the little suckers some fertilizer. They were really beautiful
and the blooms lasted for at least a week or more. ( which is more
than I can say for my poppies, which are the greatest disappointment
of my life)
