Johnny jump-ups are my favorite self-seeders! I planted 8 plants about
6 years ago and now have them every year. This year, they neatly seeded
themselves along the front of the little herb/veggie plot, mingling with
the chives (now blooming), as well as along the edges of a stone walk
and some other raised beds edged with stone. I could rip them all out
in five minutes, but who would want to! I think the plants that grow
from self-seeding are much more heat tolerant as well, since our hot dry
weather has had no effect on these prolific, cute little violet & yellow
flowers -- one batch has come up with mostly deep violet & a tiny yellow
throat. Verrry nice plants! The children love them, too.
