Hi Jeanne, I grow my red Valerian (Sometimes called Jupiter's Beard for
some odd reason) in part shade, well composted,moist, acidic soil and they
would take over the whole bed if I let them. They self seed like made, but
the redeeming grace is that they start blooming in March and go until the
first hard frost, usually around Thanksgiving. WOW!
