Kris --
'Bloodstone' is a cultivar of Armeria maritima. 'Bloodstone' has red
flowers, while other cultivars or varieties have pink or white flowers. Sea
thrift, and common thrift are common names for Armeria maritima. So the
botanical name for your plant is Armeria maritima 'Bloodstone' and you can
call it that, or sea thrift or common thrift, whichever you prefer. That's a
lot of names for one little plant! No wonder you are confused.
But it is a very nice plant and I think you will enjoy it. Yes, you should
cut the spent blooms off back to the foliage and your plant should rebloom.

Just bought a plant at Lowes and wanted to see if anyone else grows it. It's
called Armeria maritima. I did a search on it and I keep coming up with sea
thrift and common thrift. The tag says Bloodstone on it. Are they all the
same? I also want to know if i should cut the blooms off. It looks like it is
done flowering and I wondered if I deadheaded would it rebloom or is it
better to leave them on. Any help would be appreciated.
