hosta

Hi Susan

I propagate most of my Hosta in the fall--then if I feel I don't have
enough and IF I have time I divide some when they VERY first poke their
little pointed heads through the soil. All together I had over 100
plants to sell at my annual perennial sale last week end and this week
end.

I dig the entire clump out of the ground and take my trusty butcher knife
with the serrated teeth and chop off generous hunks and plant in 1 or 2
gallon containers.
It is hard work. But I love it.

They can be divided now but the leaves currently on the plant will most
likely wither and die even with tender loving care and lots of water and
placed out of direct sunlight for a week or so. It doesn't take long for
new leaves to appear.
