Betty, you're most welcome, but what I posted was for *evergreen* Azaleas.
To tell the truth, I have never pruned my deciduous ones except to remove
dead wood - so I don't know if they also have the habit of leafing out from
dormant buds along the stems...if yours are actually deciduous (the Mollis
or Exbury hybrids), you might want to take them back to a lower set of
branches instead of heading back any errant sprouts.
