Re: Creeping Charlie
That's the trouble with common names - really confusing. Chickweed around here
is Stellaria media which is a low growing garden weed with little oval leaves
and hairy stems. It has tiny star-like white flowers (it is blooming now), and
is not to hard to pull out, but it gets all over the place.
There is another weed called Mouse-eared Chickweed (Cerastium vulgatum) which
creeps more, but also has white flowers.
Creeping Charlie has little round scalloped leaves and blue flowers. It's Latin
name, as mentioned, is Glecoma hederacea. Also called ground ivy or
gill-over-the ground.
Some of the garden centers and discount stores have a picture book of pests and
weeds printed by Ortho that is good for identification and I bet there are
pictures somewhere on the 'net.
A curse on the weeds!
