Some experts advise that clay + sand = cement. You might want to use just
gypsum plus compost. In my brown clay areas I add about 6-8" of mushroom
compost and till in. Makes "Victory Garden" soil, although it's also a good
idea to add an additional inch or two of top dressing each year as that
compost does work its way down. I don't add anything else and I've been
satisfied with the results.
