I have had volunteer naturalized columbines in my garden for 20
years..they love to be moved into more spacious gardens if crowded but
will sort of hold back for a year or so before going great guns.
I have some that are 5/6 years old ..they are 4' tall now and have
glorious foliage that spreads over everything!.
This time of year I enjoy bringing them into the house, with sprigs of
Daphne and Bleeding Heart, and a bit of forget me not.
I have these tiny vases I bought just for this type of bouquet (Princess
House Crystal) and they are so nice, very delicate and airy for cloudy
Oregon days.
After the blooming season, when the flowers dry up, I save the seeds in
envelopes..I save about half of them and let half self sow.
I only get about a 20% payback from my seed collecting but have to admit
I may not be treating the seed correctly.
In any case, this is a lovely plant and worth your time!
