Hi,
I looking for information from other Zone 5 gardeners. I
would like to know how you overwinter Crocosmia. I know that it is hardy
to zone 6 but can survive zone 5 with protection. Just how much
protection do you give it? I planted some last summer and liked it "hot'
late summer color. I know of a clump not too far from here that gets
absolutely no care and they survive though they are planted near a
building. They did not appear yet this year so I went hunting for them
this weekend and found the bulbs to be mush they were mulched late last
fall with chopped oak leaves we did not have much of a snow cover this winter
here in New England. They are planted in a "open bed" and not nestled near
the house. I will dig them in the fall but would like to find other
overwintering ideas as well.
