Here in Zone 6a Cincinnati, my Crocosmia 'Lucifer' has survived four, if not
five winters, the last two being fairly mild. Usually we have several days
of minus 20-25F degree temperatures, and many more sub-zero days. The
planting location in your garden may have more to do with it than what kind
of winter you have. Mine is planted where a split rail fence makes a 90
degree turn, inside the fence. Outside the fence is a large spirea that
probably gives some shelter. One side of the fence faces north, the other
west. This crocosmia has increased fairly well too, although I can't yet
tell whether it will bloom this year.
