Re: Romantic garden
<Anyone heard of a plant referred to as "Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate"?
Any info?>
This plant is Polygonum orientale, a fascinating annual (but definately
self-perpetuating). It is one of the few annuals we grow in our gardens
& I would not want to be without it. It is a monumental plant that makes
a very serious statement in the garden.
The thick, bamboo like stems rise to 12 feet the same season here in
Zone 4, coming into its glory in the autumn. The infloresence is at the
top of the plant, from numerous branching stems that curve gracefully
downward. One can stand under it and be filled with a sense of standing
under an umbrella of flowers. Quite wonderful. Flowers are pink.
We originally started it in a large gravel bed next to one of our ponds
5 years ago. It returns faithfully each year, only to that area.
