Dot,

if you're talking about fertilizing brugmansias, I wouldn't use Miracle
Grow. It causes a build up of salts in your soil, and if you're growing
your trees in pots, this could make your soil sour in no time. A local
nursery that grows these only uses a slow-release fertilizer called
Osmocote. Actually, they recommended to me (along with White Flower Farm),
that I replace the soil in the container every year with fresh. Mix the
potting soil with compost, slow-release fertilizer, and water-grabbing
crystals. You'll want the soil to be on the heavy side because you have to
remember that these are trees and they'll need the support.

I've had wonderful success by doing this.

By the way, does anyone put other plants at the base of their brugmansias?
I like the look of something trailing in the pots at their feet. I've used
caladiums, vinca, impatients, coleus, thyme, and various other annuals.
