Kris - I hope this is the right one....you know sometimes a common name came
be different plants to different people varying in their age and where they
are from.
But I looked up meadowsweet (they show it as one word) in the The American
Horticulture Society A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants and they have
Filipendula ulmaria, syn. Spirea ulmaria (Meadowsweet, Queen of the
meadow). Clump-forming perennial with leafy stems bearing irregularly
pinnate, strongly veined, inversely lance-shaped leave, white-downy beneath.
The terminal leaflets are 2-4in across. In summer, branching stems bear
dense corymbs, to 10in across, of creammy white flowers. Height 24-36" high,
width 24in. Europe, W. Asia. Zones 3-9. 'Aurea' has warm yellow, then
creamy yellow leaves in spring, later becoming pale green. 'Flore Pleno; has
double flowers. 'Variegata' has leaves striped and marked yellow.
Since I had the book out I figured I just give you the entire
description....I guess that will help you determine if this is the right one.
