Last year in January I grew some Fatsia Japonica seeds and by last autumn I
had 5 healthy plants. As an experiment I planted one of these in a
sheltered part of the garden to see how it fared over the winter. By the
end of the winter there were three very tatty yellow leaves flat on the
ground and nothing much else. Of the 4 plants that I had kept in the house
two had died by this spring. The two that are left are about 18 inches
high. This morning I planted one of these out in the garden. BUT, I've
just checked the one that was outside for the winter and there are loads of
new leaves sprouting so it has survived. It'll be interesting to see this
autumn which one is doing best.
