Bob and others,
I have the lysimachia punctata (purple leaves, no?) and I purposely put it
in unamended clay soil that receives no additional watering from me.
Granted it withered in the heat of summer, but did not die. Instead it
rebelled and sent out runners as soon as it rained. It's almost as rampant
as my monarda, but controllable. This is it's second year. I'd hate to be
around if it had conditions that it liked.
By the way, this plant responds very well to pinching. I have it
second-tier from the front and it was growing way too tall. I pinched it
off by 1/2 when it was about 12" tall. It started branching out and the
plants are now really bushy and happy. It's back to 12" now.
