I bet the chocolate columbine was beautiful!!!! My columbine are faithful
but those foxgloves....well with the Texas...never know what the weather will
be....sometimes we have a very cool spring and sometimes, such as this year,
we hit 90 degrees before May. My foxgloves and delphiniums are now out of
bloom and the seeds are ripening. I think this year instead of letting the
seeds drop I will keep them in an envelope until fall--Oct/Nov, then give
them a toss....about the same time I put out the snapdragons and larkspur...I
think maybe this year I might be able to have some of my own. Of course to
be sure, I will still go to my favorite mom & pop nursery and buy my 20
foxgloves.
Speaking of Mom & Pop nurseries.....has everyone discovered that we are
seeing fewer and fewer smaller nurseries make it in todays trade. I
personally would like to see them stay and I support them by not buying my
plants at the Home Depots, Lowes, and WalMarts. I do support the Home
Depots, Lowe's and WalMarts by purchasing my pots, potting soil, fertilizers
and watering instruments there.
I can go to my select few mom & pop nurseries and they know me by name and
give my children treats every now and again. Upon my arrival we are
instantly in a conversation about what's in bloom and/or how did that
experimental plant do in your garden.....you don't really get that at a chain
store. They will immediately take me to something new at their center
because they know me well enough that if I ain't got it....I'm gonna get
it!!!!!!! Let's here it for our Mom & Pop nurseries and the support of
keeping them in business. It is important to me....is it important to you?
