Not so long as you might think!  If you let 8 plants set seed, you will
have a *lot* of seed - each one of those seed pods is as full of cute
little shiny black seeds as a pepper pot.

So, let this lot set seed; scatter this seed and then, next year, you can
do some deadheading for continual bloom and the year after that you ought
to have a garden full of columbine!  Esp. if you transplant those seedlings
while they are still tiny little things to space them out so they don't
crowd each other out and more reach maturity...from then on in, let them
seed on alternate years to keep replenishing themselves.  They will show up
in spots you never imagined:-)
