Re: Primulas
Hello Colin,
I went back and did a re-read of Primroses & Polyanthus by Ward. Primrose
(vulgaris) " is a plant of the open deciduous woodland on a range of soils from
heavy to slightly acid to limy. Most grow on north facing slopes and sheltered
banks, preferring broken shade, although sometimes in full sun along if near a
stream. Primroses dislike peaty and heavily waterlogged sites and very light soils
that dry out in summer"
Cowslips (P. veris) " grow in well-drained neutral grassy fields or on banks,
more open sites than usual for primroses - also in light woodland"
Does this assist in any way?
