Yes, very funny! I love Asparagus Fern. I've never observed the thorns which you speak of, but I love the dark purple shiney berries it gets on it this time of year. I've never tried it, but might this plant do ok inside by a bright sunny window for the duration of winter? It tends to like the shade of my patio here in the desert, right along side the houseplants that I grow outdoors -- wandering jew, spider plant, etc.
All mine are in containers...maybe that is why they don't spread rampant in my garden ;) How old or big is it before it gets thorns? Mine are about 3 years old.
