Bill,
Dr. Stearn died before this book was completed. He was ninety years old. I
think Timber Press is not the original publisher, it is a British book.
Timber Press never discloses the original publication date so you need to see
a copy to find if you are buying a new or ten year old publication. They buy
rights from other publishers and sometimes increase the cost for books that
are not updated.

Here is a link on the eminent Dr. Stearn who helped all gardeners with his
books and writings on nomenclature.
Epimediums are a whole new genus every two or three years. Since this book
is around fifty dollars, you might want to see it before purchase. The link
above contains a picture of Dr. Stearn who looks just like a learned
horticulturist from England should look.
