I think that one of the problems is the breeding, the 'Pacific Giant' and
'Fountain' series are breed to be grown as biennials and not long lived
pants the Dowdeswell's are using a little different genetic material.
For more perennial plants one should try the Delphinium elatum hybrids.
They are more demanding in there growing requirements but are showy.
Rich soils that are well draining but never become overly dry. Feed them and
then feed them more.
The Pacific Strain bPercival' has white flowers with black bees.
