I am actually using a Readers Digest (woudl you believe) encyclopaedia.
Your description does not sound like Thomsoniae. I have a description of one
that is not a creeper, called Cler.Trichotomum. Deciduous upright
bushy-headed tree-like shrub. Clusters of tubular, fragrant which flowers
with fleshy red
calyces, open above large leaves from late summer to mid-autumn, FOLLOWED
BY BLUE BERRIES..... grows to 3metres. Maybe this is yours?.....cheers Janine
